Lakas Kabataan, Tinig Kabataan Recharged!, a youth-oriented program of DZME 1530kHz, Ang Radyo Uno, has been true to its goal of becoming an on-air venue where the Filipino Youth is heard with regard to social and political issues affecting their lives.
The program also gives recognition to inspiring young achievers and youth organizations that make a difference and significance to the lives of the Filipino youth.
With the goal of reinforcing the program and servicing the Filipino youth in a more progressive scale, it is an honor for Lakas Kabataan to welcome an official fusion with Voice of the Youth (Tinig Kabataan).
Tinig Kabataan (VOTY), a brainchild of a youth advocate and young achiever Pocholo D. Gonzales, has evolved through the years from a radio program segment to a successful youth organization with a nationwide scope.
VOTY members are dedicated in:
· “Empowering the youth through leadership, advocacy and education”
· “Encouraging the youth to take control of their life situations while building self-esteem and improving quality of life”
· “Developing leadership among talented children and youth to make a difference by focusing on education, youth participation and development”
The project also initiated the Voice of the Youth Network, “an incubator of national partnerships among youth organizations in the Philippines”.
It’s MISSION is to “facilitate youth participation and intergenerational partnership in national decision-making, to support collaboration among diverse youth organizations, and to provide tools, resources, and recognition for positive youth action to change our country.”
VOTY Network “brings together young people in more than 78 provinces within national networks to collaborate on concrete projects addressing national problems and creating positive change.”
For it’s part, Lakas Kabataan pledges to be a part of the upcoming projects and activities of VOTY by providing it with sufficient exposure while welcoming it’s officers, members and affiliated youth organizations.
Lakas Kabataan shares the purpose of VOTY, which is to Inspire, to Inform and to Involve the Filipino Youth through an energetic radio programming.
This could be achieved through the evolution of Lakas Kabataan: Recharged!* which promises to be more dynamic and to become a more powerful force of the youth in the airwaves with the following segments:

GMA lauds 10 outstanding youth organizations
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo today congratulated the country’s Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) "for proving once more the relevance of youth power in nation-building."
The President led the awarding ceremonies at Heroes Hall in Malacanang for the best and brightest youth clubs of the nation, a culmination of the second search for TAYO, which is a joint initiative of Senate Majority Leader Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and the National Youth Commission (NYC).
A distinguished panel of judges headed by NYC Chairperson Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV and Senator Pangilinan interviewed the representatives of the 20 finalists belonging to the top five organizations from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the National Capital Region.
The youth organizations were judged on the basis of recent programs and projects that have made impacts in the community.
According to Aquino, judges looked into indicators of social mobilization, innovation, creativity, and sustainability and the probability of having the project replicated in other communities.
The ten winners in this year’s TAYO search, which were given P50,000 grants each for future projects of the organization and trophies specially designed by sculptor Toym de Leon Imao, are the following:
1.Students’ Association of Management Accountants (SAMA) of the Mariano Marcos State University in Laoag;
2.Sugbuanong Pundok Aron Sugpuon and Child Abuse (SUPACA) of Cebu City;

PAY IT FORWARD
|
THINK OF AN IDEA FOR A NATIONAL CHANGE, AND PUT IT INTO ACTION
Trevor, the 12-year-old hero of Pay It Forward, thinks of quite an idea. He describes it to his mother and teacher this way: "You see, I do something real good for three people. And then when they ask how they can pay it back, I say they have to Pay It Forward. To three more people. Each. So nine people get helped. Then those people have to do twenty-seven." He turned on the calculator, punched in a few numbers. "Then it sort of spreads out, see. To eighty-one. Then two hundred forty-three. Then seven hundred twenty-nine. Then two thousand, one hundred eighty-seven. See how big it gets?"
Pay It Forward the idea is perfect for the youth.
In an effort to bring the heart of Trevor's idea into the communities, we have created VOICE OF THE YOUTH NETWORK.
Send your email to 10 of your friends and this ten friends of yours should send it to others and so on.

KNOW YOUR PRESIDENTIAL ASSISTANT FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS

KNOW YOUR PRESIDENTIAL ASSISTANT FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS
DENNIS LACSON CUNANAN
Here is a young man who has a rendezvous with destiny. At 33 years old, having yet to reach the prime of his life, he has already achieved more than what most of us have achieved in our lifetimes. He was born in Angeles City on November 14, 1971 to proud parents… "Decu" to all his friends, he was an active achiever even during his elementary and high school days in the Holy Family Academy and Chevalier School both in Angeles City where he graduated with honor and distinction respectively. He continued with these achievements during his college days at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City where he was Student Regent in the Board of Regents, UP System's highest policy-making body. He also served as Councilor in the University Student Council, Student Representative to the Committee on Scholarships and Financial Assistance, Supremo of the Sigma Kappa Pi Fraternity (Samahan ng Kabataang Pilipino) and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Vargas Museum. He was a 2-term President of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP). After graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration, he immediately ventured into a career in business and government service.
For the fortunate among us, there is the temptation to follow the easy and familiar paths of personal ambition and financial success so conveniently laid before those who enjoyed the privilege of education at the premier State University. But not Decu. He was MIS Manager at the Philippine Integrated Steel Project, Iligan Iron and Steel Works, Inc. of the F. Jacinto Group of Companies, Manager of Hiway Internet Café and President of the Concun Group, Inc. Responding to the call of public service, he ran in 1995 and the people of the Municipality of Magalang gave him an overwhelming mandate as their No.1 Councilor where he also sat as OIC Vice Mayor for sometime. He went on to Chair the Committees on Justice and Human Rights, Ethics and Accountability and Taxation in the Sangguniang Bayan. He also served as Director of the Philippine Councilors' League and Philippine Vice Mayors' League and as Secretary General of the National Movement of Young Legislators (Region III).
He continued his service in government when he was appointed Executive Director of the National Youth Commission (NYC) under the Office of the President in August 2000 and as Head Executive Assistant to House Speaker Jose De Venecia in July 2001 to the present. Last January 2004, he was appointed Presidential Assistant for Youth Affairs by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He spearheaded the government's flagship program Student Assistance Fund for Education for a Strong Republic (SAFE 4 SR) that aims to extend assistance to around 100,000 college students all over the country and increase the number of graduates in our universities and colleges. As the brainchild of this innovative program, he was tasked and was able to implement SAFE 4 SR to a resounding success.
In between these daunting responsibilities, Decu embarked on a solid career in the Jaycees that developed his leadership skills and strengthened his resolve to community service. In 1996, he became the Charter President of the Magalang "Mekeni" Jaycees, Inc., National Chairperson of the Voice of Philippine Democracy (VOPD) in 1999, 2000 National Vice President for Central Luzon and National Senior Executive Vice President (NSEVP) in 2001.
He also attended various international conferences and conventions representing either the government and the Junior Chamber International Philippines. He was part of the Philippine Delegation to the 2002 JCI World Congress in Las Vegas, Nevada (Nov. 25-29, 2002); Japan-Philippine Future Leaders Exchange Program, Tokyo & Hiroshima, Japan (Feb. 28-Mar. 7, 2002); Co-Leader during the Korean-ASEAN Future Oriented Youth Exchange Project in Seoul, Korea (Aug. 17-26, 2001); Head of Delegation to the UN ESCAP Inter-Government Meeting on Human Resource Development for Youth in Bangkok, Thailand (June 4-9, 2001); Vice-Chairman in the Senior Official Meeting for ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth in Yangon, Myanmar (Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 2000); Delegate to the Asia-Pacific Youth Forum in Tokyo, Japan (Sept. 27-Oct. 11, 2000); Delegate 17th ASEAN Sub-Committee on Youth Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (July 3-5, 2000) and to the 2003 JCI Asia Pacific Conference in Cebu.
Needing an inspiration in life, he married Anna Maria Majella David Fernandez, daughter of incumbent Bureau of Immigration (BID) Commissioner and former Dagupan City Mayor JCI Sen. Alipio Fernandez, Jr. in December 2000 and is now the proud father to Miguel Antonio, Almina Maria Denise and Raphael Alphonsius Lorenzo. Committed in his faith that "service to the youth and humanity if the best work of life," he has vowed to continue championing the cause of the students and the youth. He is not only an epitome of everything we are trying to be in the Jaycees, he is also the pride of the Filipino youth. He may not have the greatness to bend or dictate history itself, he is definitely working to change a small portion of events in his own little way, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of his generation. Youth Leader and outstanding Filipino: Presidential Assistant and JCI Sen. DENNIS LACSON CUNANAN.
